Eding Yi

Academic Advisor and Adjunct Faculty

My work sits at the intersection of aviation, finance, law, emerging technologies and public policy. I am a Research Fellow of the Aviation Working Group (AWG), contributing to its Legal Advisory Panel and AI Brain Trust. I am also an FAA-certified Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and President of Nice Air Mobility. At the University of Hong Kong, I serve as an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Faculty member, and as a supervisor in the Faculty of Engineering.

Having studied and worked extensively across Europe and North America, I bring an interdisciplinary background spanning aviation science, aviation law, international finance, and EU and international business law. My education includes ENAC and the University of Toulouse in France, Leiden University in the Netherlands, Carleton University in Canada, and studies at Columbia University and Stanford University in the United States.

My research focuses on autonomous flight and emerging aviation governance, encompassing Automated Flight Rules (AFR), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), aviation finance and regulation, and data and AI governance. I explore how technological innovation connects with legal institutions, industry operations and public policy. I developed the Five-A (5A) Framework for autonomous flight governance: Authority, Assurance, Auditability, Adaptability and Answerability. I also contribute to aviation research, international dialogue and cooperation through initiatives associated with Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

I write for Monocle, Wolters Kluwer and the World Economic Forum. In my book project, AAM at ‘A’ Glance, I introduce an analytical framework connecting three domains—Sky, System and Society—with five layers and 15 ‘A’ dimensions to examine the technologies, operations and governance challenges shaping the future of aviation. Alongside my research and non-fiction, I explore possible futures through The Autonomy Chronicles, a series of five science-fiction projects.
